TATTOO AFTERCARE ✺
STEPS FOR HEALING YOUR TATTOO
When taking delicate care of your tattoo, please follow each steps:
-
Remove your bandage one two hours after it was first bandaged.
-
Lightly wash the Tattoo with water and antibacterial liquid soap on your fingertips in a circular motion. Dry the tattoo with a paper towel . Let air dry for about 20 minutes then apply a small amount of A&D ointment and rub it in so that appears to shine
-
Bandaging will act as protective skin and keep the sheets and clothes from sticking to the fresh tattoo. Bandage your tattoo first two nights and days if you tattoo stick with clothes or other things.
-
Use ointment at least five times a day or whenever if it feels dry. A&D should be used for three to five days then switch to a good non-scented lotion such as Lubriderm or Curel: both are hypoallergenic.
SECOND SKIN AFTERCARE
When taking delicate care of your tattoo, please follow each steps:
-
After your tattoo is finished, your artist will apply a Second Skin layer over the fresh ink. This protective barrier keeps out bacteria, moisture, and dirt, allowing the tattoo to heal in a clean environment.
-
You should leave the initial layer of Second Skin on for 24-48 hours. During this time, the tattoo may release some plasma and excess ink, which can accumulate under the bandage — this is completely normal.
-
When you’re ready to remove the first layer, do so gently. Start by carefully peeling from the edge under warm water. This makes the adhesive easier to remove and prevents irritation. Don’t rush this process, as the skin around the tattoo may still be sensitive.
-
Once the Second Skin is removed, wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid rubbing or using a regular towel, as it can introduce bacteria or irritate the skin.
-
If recommended by your artist, you can apply a new layer of Second Skin for additional protection. This second layer can stay on for 3-6 days. It’s designed to shield the tattoo while it continues to heal, minimizing scabbing and keeping the skin moisturized.
-
After 3-6 days, gently remove the second layer of Second Skin, again using warm water to ease the process. Wash the tattoo with mild soap, pat it dry, and begin applying a fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the area hydrated.
-
Even after removing the Second Skin, continue moisturizing the tattoo and avoid sun exposure, swimming, or soaking the area in water for at least two weeks. Proper aftercare is essential to ensuring your tattoo heals beautifully and stays vibrant.
